I'm Elizabeth, an educator, artist, and academic coach. After almost a decade of tutoring and coaching, I started to realize a fundamental gap in how we perceive and aim to resolve the educational struggles of students.

Over and over, I kept seeing all the emphasis placed on material understanding (usually via rote memorization), sometimes on study strategies, but rarely on anything beyond that. And I kept encountering students who couldn't get through their homework, studying, or even motivate themselves to begin because of one common roadblock: their thoughts. I'm just not good at math. I'm not that smart. I haven't gotten A's so far, so what's the point in trying?

That's where the Mindful Learning Co. comes in! We work with students of all ages to get to the root of learning roadblocks and reframe the mental patterns that lead to procrastination, lack of motivation, lack of focus, and more. We also teach these strategies to parents, both to help alleviate their own stress and provide a toolkit they can always access when they see their child struggle.

Our content instruction also emphasizes a deep, conceptual understanding of material rather than rote memorization of facts and formulas, and we teach students how to create functional and organizational systems for themselves that extend far beyond academic classes, into extracurriculars, long-term goals, and even the work they'll do as adults.

And I know this works not only from what I've seen with my students but because I have used these techniques on myself. When you're able to realize the thoughts you're having that keep you stuck in your work and intentionally change your default thought patterns, it is incredible what you're able to do and how much better you feel in the process​.
